Technologically speaking, a document management system has been created to provide the knowledge management that will use Free Software standards and technologies.

This system allows the needs and characteristics of SMEs concerning knoledge management problems to be met by resolving difficulties that SMEs have when implementing this kind of system within their organization.

Given that this is a project based on Free Software, all the tools and results emerging from the project will be available to the general public, with usage rights free of charge under a GNU GPL version 2 licence.

The OpenKm software can be downloaded quite easily and should only take a moment using a broadband connection. OpenKM is based on J2EE technology and the Apache Tomcat.. The OpenKM can therefore be installed and run on various platforms.

OpenKM is 100% Open source with Commercial support by contrast the OpenKM free is unsupported and intended for developers and technical enthusiasts.
